Unreal Engine Gets Some Love From Amazon Gamelift

uneal-4The gaming horizon had just been expanded for Unreal Engine as Amazon Web Services went public with the statement that Amazon Gamelift already supports games developed through the engine. Included in this expansion are engines such as Amazon Lumberyard, Unity, and other custom developed engines.

Through the use of AWS’s cloud infrastructure, it is possible for developers to not efficiently but quickly scale their dedicated multiplayer game servers so as to support masses of players, all without having to invest grueling hours in upfront engineering.

The Amazon Gamelift SDK is simply added by developers to the games they develop. They would go on to upload their game servers and launch the service via AWS Management Console. In turn, this would deploy game servers, automatically throughout the AWS Cloud, easily connecting players with games of their choice.

Furthering the good news, it had also been made known that a new matchmaking functionality had been included in Amazon Gamelift. The new functionality detects and selects the nearest available game server with consideration to each player’s area. Through leverage of AWS’s broad global footprint, players are allowed the lowest possible latency.

Developers such as the independent Proletariat are permitted the ease of deploy and management of their multiplayer game servers. In a reported statement, Proletariat CEO Seth Sivak had been quoted saying,

“Amazon Gamelift made it easy for us to inexpensively give our fans world-class online experiences.”

With Amazon Gamelift, developers simply add the Amazon Gamelift SDK to their games, upload their game servers, and launch the service in the AWS Management Console. The service then automatically deploys game servers across the AWS Cloud and starts connecting players to games.
