PunisherFollowing the success of the small screen adaptation of Marvel Comics’ “Daredevil” and MAX’s “Alias”, reiterated on television as “Jessica Jones”, Netflix is finally coming out with the much awaited, live action series, “The Punisher”.

Actor Jon Bernthal of “The Walking Dead” fame reprises his role as the war-torn and traumatized family man, Frank Castle whom we saw in the second season offering of “Daredevil”. In the series, as with his comic book narrative, we are made to discover that Frank Castle is waging war against his family’s murderer to which he exacts all possible violence.

Recently released set photos show Bernthal in action as the Marvel anti-hero. In one of the images, the titular character maintains his costume in comic book canon with slight alterations to complement the series’ realist and dark tone. Also made public is comic book artist, Joe Quesada’s poster for the series.

While the series is said to be faithful to the comics’ mythology, the writers and showrunners did not shy away from developing original characters. One such character is Lewis Walcott, a war veteran who is finding it hard to reintegrate himself in society. He would be played by Daniel Webber.

Other characters included in the series from “The Punisher” canon had also been revealed earlier this week specifically, tech genius Micro (Microchip in the comics) played by Ebon Moss Bachrach, Castle’s long-time friend, Curtis Hoyle played by Jason R. Moore and long-time “Punisher” villain, Billy Russo a.k.a Jigsaw portrayed by Ben Barnes.

An interesting route that the series would be taking is its fearless integration of this era’s war in the Middle East, a much grounded update from the source material’s Vietnam War.

Although not a part of the previously announced, “The Defenders” which includes super-powered Marvel characters, “The Punisher” is a part of the overall deal between media giants, Marvel Television and Netflix.

While the full details to the series have yet to be announced, “The Punisher” is confirmed to be released within 2017 as it had already been confirmed to have wrapped up shooting for the first season.
