A 1986 American romantic military action-drama, “Top Gun” follows Naval Aviator LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and his exploits as part of the United States Navy’s elite fighter weapons school. Maverick learns to compete to become the best among his peers and is subjected to a crisis situation that ultimately molds him into a man.

As confirmed by Maverick himself, Tom Cruise disclosed that the project had just received the green light. In an interview, Cruise stated that production will start next year.

Jerry Bruckheimer Honored With Star On The Hollywood Walk Of FameIn 2012, things began looking up for the planned sequel after three decades of being in the air. However, it had suffered a blow following the suicide of its original director, Tony Scott that summer.

In 2014 and 2015, the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer hired a screenwriter with David Ellison (Skydance) going onboard as a producer.

Back in January this year, Bruckheimer took to Twitter to tease of the project whom Cruise had already said yes to.

Details regarding the “Top Gun 2” sequel such as release dates and storyline are still under wraps.
