New “Ghost In The Shell” Anime Project In The Works; Awesome Tandem Revealed
It is no secret that the Scarlett Johansson-starrer, “Ghost In The Shell” had received mixed reviews from its Western fans, attributing much of viewer distaste to accusations of “whitewashing” from the production’s casting team. While this is the case, news of a new “Ghost In A Shell” anime project had been circulating, exciting fans all over.
Based on the little information disclosed, the production would be spearheaded by revered “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” director, Kenji Kamiyama. On board for the project is Shinji Aramaki, director to “Appleseed” and “Appleseed Alpha”, a two-part Japanese computer animated anime science fiction action film based on a manga created by Masamune Shirow. The “Appleseed” franchise deals with the same themes as that of “Ghost In The Shell”.
Compounding the fans’ interest further, talks from the grapevine suggest that the anime would not be a mere sequel to “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Society” but a rebirth of its universe.
Does this sound promising or threatening?
Either way, the announced Kamiyama and Aramaki tandem only whets the appetite of long-time “Ghost In The Shell” followers. We can only hope that they don’t get disappointed.
