donnieyen-ipman3Chinese actor, film director, producer, Martial Artist and fight choreographer Donnie Yen of “Ip Man” fame had been cast to play video game character, Wei Shen in the film adaption of Square Enix’s “Sleeping Dogs”

In the video game narrative, Wei Shen is a Chinese undercover cop working for the Hong Kong Police. Sent on a mission to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad, Wei Shen soon finds himself with torn loyalties. The character is voiced by “Hawaii 5-O” actor, Will Yun Lee and is given life in the live-action game trailer by Brian Ho.

Much like Yen, Shen is a skilled Martial Artist, only he’s not shy to shed blood when the mission demands. With an impressive resume that includes “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, “Ip Man”, and “xXx: Return of Xander Cage”, Donnie Yen appears to be a good fit to play the overly-tattooed fighting law enforcer.

The game was developed by United Front Games and Square Enix London and released back in 2012. It was made available for PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360. Expanding its market further, “Sleeping Dogs” received a 2014 remastered version for players using PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

While no details have been disclosed yet regarding its cinematic release, the “Sleeping Dogs” movie is said to be handled by Original Film and DJ2 Entertainment, with producer Neal Moritz of “The Fast and the Furious” heading the production.
