Batman and The Flash Join Forces to Solve the Riddle Behind The Comedian’s Button in DC’s New Crossover Story
Long time DC comic book readers found a revitalized interest in its continuity upon the release of “Rebirth”. Yes, it is no secret that “The New 52” had garnered mixed reviews and most of them, negative. This compelled DC executives to come up with an explanation as to why the DC universe had been constructed the way that it had in the now defunct “New 52” continuity.
Enter Dr. Manhattan. In more ways than one, DC’s “Rebirth” brought in a certain kind of freshness and excitement by bringing the “Watchmen” universe to DC’s new timeline. With Dr. Manhattan making a mess of DC’s storylines by removing a sense of hope and joy to its heroes, the new run is proving to be more than just mere revision but an enrichment of DC mythos.
Now, some of the questions that “Rebirth” fans have been throwing around since May are about to be given light in the teased “Batman” and “The Flash” crossover story, “The Button”.
Starting in “Batman #21”, the Caped Crusader and the Scarlet Speedster join forces to uncover the truth behind a smiley button that had found its way into the Batcave. Originally owned by the vigilante called “The Comedian” the button had been a central image to Allan Moore’s masterpiece, “Watchmen”. Added into the mix is the Reverse Flash who is seems to play a role in the whole mysterious affair.
While DC is still mum regarding the specifics of the arc, the publisher disclosed a solicitation, citing that the story would pertain to an “investigation” that would take a “deadly” turn, with an “unwelcome third party” in the helm of the button’s “secrets”.
