The Teaser Trailer to SyFy’s “Krypton” is Finally Out

GrandpaSupermanWhile not official according to its network, the first teaser trailer to the new DC Comics series has finally been released. Reported over a year ago, cable network SyFy is coming out with a prequel show simply entitled, “Krypton”. And as already made public, the series would follow the strife and impending doom that would befall Superman’s planet.

The series focuses on Seg-El, grandfather to Kal-El, aka Superman. Here, the House of El is brought into disgrace before the whole Kryptonian society. Seg-El, who would be played by fresh talent, Cameron Cuffe goes to lengths to save the honor of his house and ultimately, the entire planet from its own undoing. His heroic acts would not be made easy by his apparent, forbidden relations with one Lyta Zod played by actress Georgina Campbell.

It is interesting to note that the early reports regarding “Krypton” had broken DC’s “Our T.V. and Movie Universes Are Separate” rule as it is said to connect with Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”. This could still hold true as the production concepts and the House of El insignia for “Krypton” is identical with that of the movie’s.

You can watch the teaser here:

The Kryptonian’s name may sound familiar to hardcore fans as it is an allusion to Superman’s co-creator, Jerry Siegel. The series also takes cues from the 1980s comic book miniseries, “The World of Krypton” written by John Byrne.

The series of course is not DC’s first attempt at a superhero prequel, although it may be the first to be in the farthest past in terms of a superhero’s timeline. WB’s (Now The CW) “Smallville” which ran from 2001 – 2011 told the story of Superman’s teen years. Albeit recognized as one of the most successful superhero shows on American television, “Smallville” had receiced mixed reviews upon its last seasons. Currently running is Fox’s “Gotham” which follows the young Bruce Wayne as he copes with the trauma of having to lose his parents.

David S. Goyer who had a hand in various DC movies such as, “Man of Steel”, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, and “The Dark Knight” Trilogy will serve as Executive Producer and teleplay writer to “Krypton”. Joining Goyer is “Sleepy Hollow” producer Damian Kindler who would also take the reins as Executive Producer and Showrunner. Colm McCarthy is said to direct and co-executive produce the pilot. The series had been reported to be produced by Warner Horizon Television and is set to be released this year.
